In the transmission industry, the use of weathering steel, also known as COR-TEN, began as early as 40 years ago. Many utilities prefer to use weathering steel because of its aesthetically pleasing brown, organic finish that helps poles to blend into wooded areas.

Nov 21, 2007 · Cor-ten weathering steel csd72 (Structural) (OP) 6 Nov 07 14:18. Does anyone know of any additional issues associated with the use of cor-ten weathering steel? Are there any compatibility issues with welds/fasteners e.t.c? Will galvanised bolts work? I havent been able to find much info on the US steel
How to Weld Weathering (CORTEN) Steel WELDING C orten, or COR-TEN, is the trademark name for weathering steels manufactured by U.S. Steel Corporation. Weathering steels are a family of low carbon steel alloys that were specifically developed to provide higher strength and more importantly eliminate the need to paint to protect against the elements (rain, snow, humidity, sun, salt, etc.). A242 and A588 are the ASTM designations for the two most
REDCOR® steel - BlueScope SteelWeathering steel has been used since the 1930s and when designed and detailed correctly, taking into account the environmental factors that govern its use, it has exhibited corrosion resistance. The enhanced corrosion resistance means that these steels can be used without the need of expensive paint systems. Reducing the need for paint
However, weathering steel is silver in its original state just like standard steel. The patina develops over time when exposed to weather. The Weathering Process. The most practical benefit of weathering steel is its ability to resist corrosion. When exposed to moisture, air, and other elements, most low alloy steels have the tendency to rust.
WeatherSteel - HomeWeatherSteel is a trade name of Blackwood Associates, Inc. for a cladding. product generally known as Weathering Steel (although more commonly. referred to by the US Steel tradename *COR-TEN® Steel). WeatherSteel is. also frequently called the Rusty Metal or Rusty Steel. Call it whatever.
Weathering Steel - DisadvantagesWeathering steel's normal surface weathering can also lead to rust stains on nearby surfaces. The U.S. Steel Tower in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was constructed by U.S. Steel in part to showcase COR-TEN steel. The initial weathering of the material resulted in a discoloration of the surrounding city sidewalks, as well as other nearby buildings.
Weathering Steel, often referred to as Cor-Ten or A606-4 / A588, is a group of steel alloys which were developed to eliminate the need for painting steel and to insure that the steel will form a stable rust-like appearance if exposed to the elements for a prolonged period of time. The net effect is that the steel creates a beautiful patina coating which also guards against future corrosion.
Weathering Steel claddings, Panels - Weathering Steel Weathering (also commonly referred to as cor-ten) was used in 1971 for an order of electric railcars built by the St. Louis Car Company for Illinoise Central Railroad. The use of corten was seen as cost-cutting move in comparison with the contemporary railcar standard of stainless steel.
What is Cor-ten / Weathering Steel? Distressed MetalsWeathering steel, best known under the initial trademark name COR-TEN® (Corten) steel, is a high-strength low-alloy steel that was initially developed for increased corrosion resistance.
Henan BEBON IRON & STEEL Co., located in Zhengzhou ,Henan province of china, is specialized in manufacturing and exporting steel plate. Especially Corten steel (often referred to as CorTen) is a weather resistant steel which could more accurately be termed as an "Atmospheric Corrosion Resistant Steel".Answers to questions about corten and weathering steelThe terms weathering steel and cor-ten are often confused and used interchangeably because they are essentially the same thing. Weathering steel is the generic name while Cor-Ten® is the United States Steel Corporations trade name for atmospheric corrosion resistant steel.
